Oscar 2012 Fashion: Dresses on the Red Carpet
At last a long-awaited 81th ceremony of presentation of the most desirable statues in the world was over. Leaving aside the film failures and achievements, let’s pay attention only to the visible brilliance of celebrities – on their clothes and jewelry – what conclusions can we make? Did Oscar in the period of the global crisis differ from the Oscar in the period of world prosperity? What colors should be worn to look like a Hollywood actress? Which designers presented the best dresses on the red carpet? Our small review is about dresses on the most world famous red carpet.
The 81th ceremony of the American Film Academy Awards – yes, the very statues Oscar – was held at the famous Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles. It was broadcasted live on American TV channel ABC. The crisis was reflected in everything: dresses of celebrities were less alarming, the shining jewelry was not visible from space, and the ceremony was much poorer. For example, many permanent donors have reduced their advertising budgets and significantly cut their representation at the ceremony. A car Concern General Motors and cosmetics giant L’Oreal refused to show their commercials.
Besides, this year American Film Academy went on an unprecedented step – for the first time in the history the ceremony was interrupted by ads of new films in order to retain at least some profit. It is sad!
But celebrities pleased their fans even at impoverished “Oscar”.
To begin, of course, with winners, as it is known we don’t have the right to judge them. Fashion critics are not particularly troubled, and not pleased with newcomers in Hollywood, Frida Pinto and Dev Patel. Frida, was in the royal blue dress from John Galliano in a set with sandals from Jimmy Choo, and Dev, in the tuxedo from Burberry – cautiously, but a bit Indian. These winners are modest, but confident in themselves. We are looking forward to continuation.
Penelope Cruz, the owner of statue for the best female role of the second plan, again emphasized her exquisite taste. Her magnificent dress from Pierre Balmain is a vintage masterpiece of 1950. The ivory color, enormous femininity, lace and open shoulders – Penelope, bravo! By the way, Miss Cruz has long been in the centre of attention of the fashion critics. In 2008, she was shining in a dress from Chanel Haute Couture, and in 2007 – in a dress from Versace fashion house. But only the dress from Pierre Balmain was lucky for her.
Kate Winslet has changed neither her views of life, nor the strict taste. Kate chose the dark blue dress with anthracite accents from the Yves Saint Laurent studio together with her eight year-old daughter Mia.
Women in white
Many celebrities have chosen white as their color at the ceremony “Oscar 2009”. Besides Penelope Cruz, in white dresses were shining Jessica Beal (Prada) and Marissa Tomei (Versace), Sarah Jessica Parker (Dior Haute Couture) and Nicole Kidman (L’Wren Scott), Taraji Henson and Melissa George … And a lot of beautiful women and wonderful actresses.

Last year’s winner, Marion Kotiar and her “scaled” dress from Jean Paul Gaultier has long occupied the minds of the fashion critics. Reviews have been very different, often contradictory. And here on the red carpet is an invasion of mermaids! Celebrities in their costumes outplay the idea of scales, and metal castings of different lengths, different textures, but the effect of cold skin and luster are guaranteed. The ceremony was colored by Marion Kotiar’s dark blue dress from Haute Couture Dior, Lisa Rinna was in a lilac dress, while Reese Witherspoon in blue … But 28-year-old Natalie Portman was out of the flow – her poignantly-pink dress was the most striking accent of “Oscar” this year.
Miracles
Every year, a celebrity (usually female) wears something that leads to confusion of both critics and fans. This year, Beyonce Knowles in her rich dress, which emphasized her rich body – was amazing. Unhappy pop diva, in the extended corset, could only smile and wink. It was noticeable that she made each step with great difficulty, but she struggled trying to look lean and taut. Black dress with gold prints in the form of leaves and flowers, we will remember forever.
The second act of celebrities, which can’t be left unnoticed, was, of course, the magnificent dress of Tilda Swinton from Lanvin. Black bottom and beige top of the dress the shade of which has mixed with her skin and hair made a lasting impression.
Failures
First in this list is Heidi Klum. The supermodel decided to repeat the sensation that she had on the red carpet last year in a luxurious scarlet dress from John Galliano. Yes, history has repeated the property, but unfortunately, in the form of farce. Red Dress-2009 Heidi has appeared to be inappropriate in the Kodak Theater. This dress repeated some details of last year’s masterpiece, but only designer Roland Mouret is not Galiano. We hope, that in 2010, the history will not be repeated the second time – in the form of tragedy.
